Port Chalmers Maritime Museum

TAKE A TRIP TO ‘PORT ‘AND VISIT Port Chalmers Maritime Museum
Port Chalmers Maritime Museum offers an astonishing snapshot of Otago’s maritime history with a wealth of artefacts, curiosities and data to excite and inform our visitors. Researchers are very welcome.
BORN FROM THE SEA
Step back in time with a visit to the Port Chalmers Maritime Museum. Its unique displays, proudly presented by volunteers, give you an insight to the role of the port in the building of the region; from its ships and boats, to the social history of its seafaring people. Look closely – there are many treasures and stories within our galleries.
The Museum itself is located in a historic former post office on the exact spot where the first settlers from the sailing ship ‘John Wickliffe’ landed in 1848 to establish the port and the City of Dunedin.
A viewing gallery within the museum gives a commanding view of the container port’s operations.
Opening hours: Monday-Friday: 10am - 3pm
Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays: 1pm-4pm
Cruise ships season visiting hours: 10am - 5pm.
